Continuing on with the work from yesterday...
Today you should:
a. Finish reading all five volumes of "E"
b. Choose ONE character to focus on (Ex: Jack [Beanstalk], Pinocchio, Humpty-Dumpty, Fairy Godmother, Gepetto, Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Rapunzel, Jack [Nimble], Hansel and Gretel, or Little Miss Muffett).
c. Find the original fairy tale, and read it. Note what your character does, says, thinks, feels, how s/he relates to others, and what s/he looks like.
c. Now, reread E, focusing just on the character you chose. Ask yourself the same questions as above.
d. When you are done--in a detailed and entertaining blog post--describe the two versions of your character. Then, answer the following question. Why did the artist choose to portray your character as he did? How is the "E" portrayal of your character rooted in the original story, and how is it different?
Tomorrow we will use this text as a starting point for talking about mood in graphic novels.
