Hey all...

Today we are starting our assessment. It is due by the end of the period tomorrow, NO EXCEPTIONS, and is worth 25% of your grade.

For your assessment, you will read "The Witch" and "Wolverine." After you have finished, compare and/or contrast the two texts in terms of how they use color, shadow, and panel size to enhance (improve the quality and attractiveness of) the story. The comics are drawn, colored and designed to add a visual element to the story.  The artwork illustrates action in way that is different and at times better than by simply using words to describe what is taking place.  Think about emotions and colors.  Think about how the panels are placed on the page.  Think about how the characters are drawn.  Remember you are not simply describing the artwork or what is taking place in the story.  Instead you are writing a thoughtful essay comparing at contrasting the design and artwork of both comic book graphic novels.  Be specific.  Give evidence. 

Because this is an assessment, and worth 25% of your grade, your work should be SUBSTANTIAL. You should write five paragraphs (including an introduction and conclusion), and each paragraph should be 8-10 sentences (yes, we'll count).

Remember to use details from the text, and include explicit references to the visual components of the story.
